Larvae feed in the phloem of damaged, drying trunks and thick branches as well as logs. Sun-exposed breeding sites are preferred. Mature larvae bore into sapwood for pupation. Adults (size 10-20 mm) emerge May-July. Larval development may take up to 2 years. Deciduous forests, preferably of unmanaged character.
