Hylesinus toranio (oleiperda)
Ash Bark Beetle
The body size ranges from 2.5 to 3.5mm, the entire body is without spots, and at first glance, it resembles the Hylesinus crenatus in shape and color. However, it is significantly smaller and densely hairy. The life cycle is likely similar to Hylesinus varius. In spring, females initiate feeding galleries, which are mostly double-armed. Maternal galleries are approximately 5 cm long and up to 2 mm wide. Larval galleries are longer compared to the H. varius and can reach 5 to 8 cm. The emergence holes are circular. Adult beetles likely also engage in maturation feeding on healthy ash branches, where they overwinter. The generation is annual.
Double-armed maternal galleries, circular exit holes 2mm in diameter.
